York County: Looking for something to do in historic York? Check out new site!

Stop by the new website “Visit Historic York, SC” — it’s sponsored by the York Downtown Business Association. The site is very well done, and it contains links to York’s local businesses, restaurants, theaters, parks, festivals, etc. etc.

Be sure to let them know if there are more things you’d like to see. I know I’d love a slideshow, with more photos of our awesome city! How about links to Parks & Rec, plus info about school events (high-school concerts, fish fries, football games…)

Click here to check it out: York, SC

Free walking tour: Gravestones of Rose Hill

Rose Hill Cemetery, in historic downtown York, was started in 1829. It is the resting place of many famous or just plain interesting people from the Carolinas and beyond. For war history buffs, there are Confederate soldiers, Union soldiers, S.C. statesmen, even men who fought at the Battle of Wounded Knee.

Join staff from the Historical Center of York County for a free cemetery walking tour, Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. Meet at the cemetery’s entrance on E. Liberty Street. There is parking in the circle in front of Rose Hill or on Cemetery Street to the west.

You’ll hear stories about the gravestones, their symbols and the interesting people buried there. Don’t miss it!
