Both Tega Cay and Rock Hill communities are celebrating the National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 3. National Night Out is an annual initiative held each year “to let the criminals know they are not welcome in our neighborhoods!” Individual neighborhoods hold block parties, ice cream socials, flashlight walks, barbecues . . . And city officials, policeman, firefighters and other representatives visit each event. Remember to leave your front porch light on Tuesday night to support the National Night Out.

I’ve never paid much attention to the entertainment coupon books you see floating around. They seemed like something I would buy, then stick in a bookcase somewhere and never use. But this is a good deal: The 2010 Entertainment Book is on sale today for a big discount as they’re switching over to the 2011 version. The books originally were $35 each; now you get two books for $10 while supplies last!
And though the book is listed as “Charlotte,” there are TONS of York County stores, attractions and restaurants. Examples: Striker’s bowling, Red Bowl, Domino’s, Jasmine Cafe, Nishi G’s, Ebenezer Grill, Kate’s Skates. You’ll be amazed how many are in your back yard.

Mobile veterinary clinics are a quick and inexpensive way to get your healthy cat or dog up-to-date on its vaccinations and heartworm tests. These clinics travel around the state, popping up in York County on a fairly regular schedule. If you decide to take your animal, check out the website beforehand; it list some specific requirements (print out a form, bring a driver’s license, etc., plus there is a new law about heartworm meds).
Pet Med Mobile will be in Rock Hill, Tega Cay, Lake Wylie and York on Sunday, Aug. 1. Click here to get the schedule and more information: Pet Med
